The Ansah Family Invites You into Their Habitat-NYC Home

On his application to Habitat-NYC, Sam Ansah penned a desperate note: “I just had quadruplets a month ago, and I occupy a one-bedroom apartment!” Overnight, Sam and Esther Ansah’s family exploded from two members to six. Neither their home nor Sam’s salary could expand enough to shelter this suddenly increased household. With help from Habitat-NYC’s many generous supporters and volunteers, Sam and Esther and their active quadruplets have achieved their dream: building and owning a home of their own. In 2006, they moved into this simple, decent and energy-efficient home in the Bronx. Sam, Esther, Sam Jr., Simon, Naomi and Nora welcome you into their home to see how Habitat-NYC has changed their lives. Video production by Stephanie Lear and Matt Epstein. Music composed by Christopher Occhialini. A special thanks to Sam, Esther, Sam Jr., Simon, Naomi and Nora Ansah, and everyone who helped them achieve their goal of home ownership.

With over 100 million people that need a home in the US, Habitat for Humanity cannot possibly provide affordable housing for everyone. Therefore, the program is quite selective in choosing the most suitable candidate for a new home. Therefore, in addition to meeting a list of requirements to qualify, the possible candidate also needs to do tasks to help grow the program. These duties range from volunteering to help building exposure for the program through various media.  The more people who know about this amazing program, the more people that can potentially help an get involved.

The program does not just provide a free home to those who need it. Instead, the program has been designed housing with an affordable price with no-interest mortgages to low income families. Time Lapse House Build – Knoxville Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build 2011

Hey Everyone, here are a couple of really neat videos showing a “time lapse” of a Habitat Home being built. I always like to think of these like a modern day “barn raising” with people coming together to help others. I cannot believe what can be accomplished (not only from a physical building standpoint) when people come together with a common cause and work together to achieve a common desired goal. I just wish the rest of the world (and the US for that matter) could come and work together – who knows what we could accomplish.

The other thing I always like to think of is how lives are changed as a result of these homes. Imagine what it must be like for these families to be able to move into these homes. Truly life changing.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy them.

Knoxville Habitat for Humanity built 7 houses in 7 days from the ground up April 9th – 16th, 2011.

Thanks to our 13 Covenant Partners and more than 1,400 volunteers, all 7 houses were finished on time.  This is truly amazing.  7 families will have there life’s totally transformed.

Check out this cool time-lapse video of one of the houses going up during the course of 7 days.

Thanks also to The Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council at The University of Tennessee for funding this house and for bringing out the volunteers to build it!
